Stay in a Loving Space
IN THE FACE OF CONFLICT, I FIND that staying in a loving space is a sure way to disengage myself from someone’s anger, resistance, rebellion or confusion. I often use this in grocery stores and fast-food chains, with my son’s irritability, or with someone who is angry at me. It calms me down and reminds me that I want to come to a resolution in a peaceful manner. My ability to stay calm and peaceful, while staying in a loving space, defuses and calms those around me. I keep breathing, I make sure both of my feet are on the ground and my arms are not crossed. I think loving thoughts and let negativity ricochet off me. Tai Chi is a form of defense in which a person under attack takes the energy and moves it off to the side, sending it away. What a lovely metaphor. Staying in a loving space keeps your defenses down and allows the other person to put voice to what it is he thinks is harming him. It opens the way to softer communication. Love is unselfish, understanding and kind, |
