Sit On Yourself

width="600"

REGULATING MY WEIGHT IS SOMETHING I “know” how to do. Doing what is necessary to maintain a weight that is comfortable for me is another issue! Sometimes, it’s easy to turn away from eating more than I need to feel full. Other times, it’s as if I’m driven beyond reason. It’s at those moments, I “sit on myself,” and reward myself in my mind for having resisted the temptation.

“Sitting on yourself” is self-regulation. It is helpful in developing successful communications when you become aware of just how much guilt, blame and shame you put on people to try to get them to do what you want. It’s sometimes difficult to  stop this behavior when you’ve used it before to help you feel you are in control. “Sit on yourself” by not saying anything. Wait and watch the other person’s ability to reason and think things through for himself.

We are a society of quick fixes and quick answers. We find it easy to do each other’s work. Ironically, when we are honest with ourselves, we recognize that we could be doing whatever it is we’re trying to get the other guy to do. AAhhhh, now there’s some food for thought!

Wisdom is knowing what to do next,
Skill is knowing how to do it,
And virtue is doing it.
