ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT AND NEED. Get in touch with what it is you really want. Don’t expect other people to read your mind. Take responsibility and ask for what you need from people.

You don’t have to be demanding, nor does one person have to give you exactly what you desire. Put your request out there for people to hear and to see. Keeping it a secret guarantees that it will not happen.

Ask, ask, and ask again. Ask to be heard when you’re asking. Ask to know what’s going on for someone who chooses not to give you what you feel you need.

Learn to take some risks so you can understand how you are interacting with those whom you feel refuse your requests in some way.

Ask yourself, “Have I been clear with them about what it is I need? Have I given them the complete picture? Have I made it a guessing game? Have I come off as demanding? Did I get angry with them when I thought they were refusing me instead of the request I was making? Were they supposed to read my mind?”

Make a New Label, Paint a New Picture, Sing a New Song

IN LEARNING HOW TO REVERSE THE roles we have played and outgrown, we must first have a picture, or a sense, of what we want to be. It is necessary to create new labels for ourselves and the ways in which we choose to see others.

Self-talk is the way we can replace negative chatter those little gremlins inside our heads that try to convince us we shouldn’t have what our hearts desire. We can chase those gremlins away with new labels and affirmations of what we want, desire and deserve.

Do it now!

Research indicates that the more we deliberately impact the chatter in our heads with strong, positive statements, the greater our chances at success.

Take some time to really hear the songs you listen to on the radio. Do they reinforce that your heart is always gonna get broken? Turn it off! Get some new music to support the new language you want to bombard your conscious mind and subconscious.

Dear Difference Maker,

If you are an educational administrator, I believe I know some things about you and your current situation…

I know you’re a leader who dreams of dramatically make a positive, self-sustaining difference in the current culture.

Do you constantly ask yourself, “How can I do this on my own and still make an exponential difference in the lives of so many that we are losing through the cracks?”

Because the district is unwilling or unable to provide the resources and support necessary to make change, do you ever find yourself feeling really frustrated (angry) that individuals won’t just step up to make the needed changes of their own volition!?

I know I did!

And finally, to make matters even worse, sometimes (no matter what you do) it just plain feels like there are far too many individuals who JREDD (Justify, Rationalize, Explain, Defend, Debate) about most things that are asked of them.

It seems like they are actively going out of their way to sabotage your efforts to re-energize teachers with minimal emotional bandwidth left to get them across the finish line this year by giving them something that is easy and fun (and uncomplicated) to get lit up about.

Well let me tell you, I know exactly how you feel because I’ve been there myself… more than once!
