Dear Difference Maker, Here’s your …. Isn’t this rooster’s coloring amazing!? As you know by now I am newly fascinated with The Chicken Chick’s Chicks. Her chickens are just beautiful … who knew they were such incredibly colored works of art and completely true to themselves. How’s your week been? Have you been productive? Focused? Happy? Have you had plenty of time to do all you want to do and be with all the people you want to be with? Do you really feel like you own your life or like it owns you? I know our society likes to celebrate the weekends and yet, when you are doing something that makes a difference so you can come alive, like this rooster strutting his beautiful feathers, then it really never matters what day it is. I recently read a report from a nurse who takes care of people who are close to death. She asked hundreds of patients in the last twelve weeks of their lives what their biggest regret was. The number one regret reported was, “I wish I had been true to who I was and not just live to meet the expectations of others.” Today, make a decision to live life with no regrets … go ahead and strut your stuff! 7 Surprising Ways to Boost Your Brain
Good Morning Difference Maker … Here we are on a Monday moving quickly into the fall season. I ran across this relief giving article (that I wish I had written) which I want to share with you today. Several years ago my husband was diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder – SAD – which is a type of depression that occurs at the same time every year. While I enjoy the start of college and professional football coupled with the fall melancholy the turning leaves bring, he used to struggle as the days become darker. (He doesn’t any more due to Bonus Tip #8 added on to the article.) Since September is National Suicide Awareness month, I thought it was a great time to encourage you to OWN YOUR LIFE and do things differently this fall if this is something that affects you or a loved one. I hope the Tips from this article help! From my heart to yours… Remember my motto: People who feel better, do better. Your HEALTH is your WEALTH … take care of You and make it a great week! [Video] Happiness Revealed
![]() [Video] Happiness Revealed Posted on August 29, 2014 by Mary Reynolds Dear Difference Maker, I just ran across this and wanted to share it with you today. It is a short TED talk clip by award-winning cinematographer Louie Schwartzberg who specializes in time-lapse nature photography. He shared a portion of one of his latest projects titled “Happiness Revealed.” The incredibly moving excerpt below is narrated by an elderly man featured in this breathtakingly beautiful clip: “You think this is just another day in your life? It’s not just another day, it’s the ONE day that is given to you – today! It’s GIVEN to you it’s a GIFT, it’s the only gift you have RIGHT NOW. And the only appropriate response is GRATEFULNESS. If you do nothing else but to cultivate that response to the great gift this unique day is… If you learn to respond as if it were the first day in your life, and the very last day…then you will have spent this day very well! “Begin by opening your eyes and be surprised that you have eyes you can open. Take in the incredible array of color that is constantly offered to us for pure enjoyment. Look at the sky… we so rarely look at the sky. We rarely note how different it is from moment to moment with clouds coming and going. This day right now is unique – the formation of clouds in the sky will never be as they are right now. Open your eyes – look at that. “Look at the faces of people you meet. Each one has an incredible story beyind that face. A story that you could never fully fathom. These are just a few of the enormous gifts to which you can open your heart. And so my wish today is that your heart will be open to all these blessings – that they will flow through you so everyone you will meet on this day will be blessed by you…just by your eyes, by your smile, by your touch… Just by your presence. Let the gratefulness overflow into blessings all around you. Then it REALLY WILL be a good day!” The beautiful musical artistry is created by Gary Malkin in Grateful Passages. Have a wonderful weekend! Reaching out …

[Brain Research] 7 Hardwired Emotions and effective teaching
|
[Brain Research] 7 Hardwired Emotions and effective teaching Dear Difference Maker, I cringe every time I hear an educator or parent say, “Johnny (or Suzy or Mr. B) should know better!” The most up-to-date brain research reveals that many of the traditional approaches to overcoming the mind-centered challenges that hold us back — try harder, work longer, find the sheer willpower —either do not work or may make our problems worse. The true key to satisfaction and success at any age is healthy relating and connecting. Fear, surprise, anger, disgust, sadness, anguish, and happiness have been identified by researchers as innate emotions. Brain Research 7 Hardwired Emotions Dr. Paul Ekman’s worldwide brain research at University of CA, San Francisco revealed that no matter what culture we live in, we are all “hard-wired” for only 7 emotions: sadness, joy, disgust, anger, fear, anguish and surprise. This list came as the result of Paul Ekman’s research with the Fore tribes of Papua New Guinea. Even members of this remote, stone-age culture could identify these primary emotions from photographs of people from unfamiliar cultures. Some emotions are universal. Different emotions stimulate unique regions of the brain, which can be identified by neurobiological imaging and therefore impact a persons ability to connect and learn. The first thing that strikes me is that overwhelmingly the basic emotions we are born with are a result negative stimulation. All the emotional responses required for peaceful existence with others— sympathy, patience, forgiveness, humility, compassion, optimism, cooperation, and gratitude —are not innate but must be taught and experienced to be learned. Click here to see what 8 emotions must be taught. Reaching out …

[Video] Getting HAPPY with a bunch of Dogs and a Cat
![]() [Video] Getting HAPPY with a bunch of Dogs and a Cat Posted on August 25, 2014 by Mary Reynolds Good Morning Difference Maker!
If This Doesn’t Make You Happy, I Don’t Know What WillAccording to Sylvia Lyubomirsky, The How of Happiness, scientists have observed that about 50% of our happiness is determined by our genetics and that we have what they call a happiness set point – a level of happiness we tend to gravitate toward. The study showed that about 10% of our happiness is determined by our life circumstances and the remaining 40% is dependent on how we focus our thoughts, attitudes and behavior. So the question remains … what to do with the remaining 40% that we actually have total control over? Well… we can all start with … what else? Coffee! Click here now to learn … How drinking coffee can give you a long, happy lifeAnd then …Let’s raise our cup of coffee on this beautiful Monday morning and make it a GREAT day! Reaching out …
