I just posted an article about the importance of attitudinal energy on today’s blog which might interest and help you understand just how important your energy and tone is before giving directives.

Having worked with 55-65% emotionally upset – at-risk – students coming into my classrooms at the start of every year, I have found that checking in on my energy first before giving directives and choices paved a smoother road for us all.

In situations where I’m was not succeeding with a child I would remind myself that “Children teach us exactly what we need to know if will will just stop, look and listen to what they are showing us.”

It is generally when I take a moment to put myself in their shoes that I discover exactly what I need to be doing differently to get a different result.  It’s no different with adults.  We’re all just little kids in big bodies after all.

I hope you will make time to read today’s blog and consider the fact that whether it be a behaviorally distressed kid or colleague you have to work with you simply can not have an attitude and keep it a secret! It’s what is instantly impacting the outcomes you are getting regarding what you are trying to get them to do.
