TEMPLATE FB/LI 5 Things Students Wish Every Teacher Knew

Hey Mary,

I will be the first to tell you that business can be messy.

A longtime client leaves you, someone doesn’t value your program or work, or you just plain get stuck on a new project. Things can be complicated- especially for winners.

Winners show up more. They suck it up, cry, stomp, celebrate, and rinse & repeat. And guess what else? Every successful person I’ve ever worked with used that same formula. The people who quit are usually very smart, creative, and driven… but they stop right before the good stuff. Here are a few tips to keep you going:

Write down your vision.
What’s your end goal with your business? More time? More freedom? Finally taking your family on that European vacation? If you have a clear vision in writing and in your view, it’s harder to let that vision die.

Get real with yourself.
One of my mentors says, “It is simple, but not easy. Success is hard work.” No one won the Heisman, the Oscar, or the gold medal by being half-assed about showing up. Don’t fool yourself. Are you spending a lot of time thinking about goals without taking action?

Get good advice.
The people around me won’t let me quit. I have surrounded myself with a circle of influence. I have a tribe of tough and loving go-getters. A friend and coach emailed me last week and said “Hold fast. We need your confidence.” Get supportive people like that in your circle!

If you love what you do and you know you can help others, there’s no reason to quit when things get messy. Stopping is not an option. See you at the finish line!
